Fast Track Qualifiers
|

23 February 2017

Winterlude (Jennie Candlish/Joe Fanning, 9/2) was the decisive winner of the £19,000 32Red Conditions Stakes (7.45pm) over two miles at Kempton Park on Wednesday, February 22. The two-mile Polytrack contest was a Fast-Track Qualifier for the £150,000 Betway Marathon over the same distance and surface at Lingfield Park on All-Weather Championships Finals Day, Good Friday, April 14, meaning that Winterlude now has a free and guaranteed place in that race. The son of Street Cry was held up in fourth of the five runners as Intense Tango (Karl Burke, Clifford Lee, 8/1) made the running. Winterlude made smooth headway two furlongs from home to take up the running entering the final furlong and stayed on well to score by a length and three quarters from Vettori Rules (Gay Kelleway, Luke Morris, 13/2) with First Mohican (Alan King/Hollie Doyle, 3/1) another neck back in third. The disappointment of the race was 6/4 favourite Sandro Botticelli, who was unable to get competitive and came home in fifth. Winterlude, who began his career with Godolphin, was recording his sixth victory on the All-Weather on what was his first start over two miles on the Flat. The seven-year-old has also scored over hurdles, having taken a novices' race over an extended two miles at Bangor in July, 2016. The winning time was 3m 31.39s.
